Google Classroom

This week is going to be all about Google Classroom. The article caught my eye because I have been so excited that our school is moving to this for next year. Unfortunately, we found out last week that we will not be implementing this. I still think it is a great program and hope that we will move to using it in the future!

Many schools have made the transition to a 1:1 where all students receive an electronic device ranging from a chromebook to a iPad. With adding this technology into to classroom, teachers have been able to use different apps and programs to help enhance learning the the classroom.

One app that many schools have started to use was Google Classroom. With this program, teachers can keep their paperwork for all classes organized neatly on one dashboard. Teachers can give students different resources, readings, assignment instructions, etc.

Teachers can also collaborate with other teachers and edit documents together which would be very beneficial in a co-taught class. Discussions in the classroom are also easily done online because students can post and respond to other classmates virtually.

Other perks of using google classroom is that teachers can give immediate feedback and students or teachers could access the information anywhere they go.

Google classroom allows teachers to monitor student activity and can even lock students into a certain app if they are getting distracted or taking an online exam. Google classroom has expanded mobile learning and offers many great features that can help utilize technology in the classroom.

  1. I too love the idea of google classroom. It seems to be an all encompassing application with a seemingly endless array of possibilities. I especially love the collaboration possibilities between students, teachers, etc. We are currently a 1:1 school where each student is given a small laptop. Unfortunately, I do not think there was/is enough professional development or time given to teachers to really be implementing them within their classrooms. Students misuse or forget them a lot, and there are more teaching not using them in their curriculum's then there are. I am hoping this will begin to change in the next few years.
